Yes, But No

In my own opinion yes, peer pressure has its positive effects for students, but not all the time. Peer pressure happens to everyone, mostly in teenagers. According to statistics 28% of teens give into peer pressure,no matter if it’s positive or negative. (“Statistics On Peer Pressure.”)
In my own personal experience I’ve been pressured to do good things. Some of the pressure was given to me to succeed my life goals. I've made some good decisions but sometime along the way I’d go off and not do good, even if I was pressured positively. The peer pressure can be taken in many ways as in my own experience it has.
In some cases it wouldn’t matter what type of pressure a student is receiving. There are many negative influences in the world such as people who tell you to do things that are against the law. Even music that criticizes a way of someone’s being. Many peer groups can be a positive influence on their friends as well like pointing you in the right direction. Like specifically two peer groups that point you in different paths. For example right now i have friends that are all about the “let’s be rebellious” stage while my brother plus some other friends are in a “we want to do better for ourselves” stage. Their influences change me a little I’m rebellious sometimes but i still manage to follow the right thing to do.
Positive peer pressure might: Improve a student’s grades. The positive influence makes a teen want to naturally be like the person who is achieving if in the same peer group. Improve confidence by making sure that a teen changes his/her attitude. It will improve a teens communications skills, resulting in trying more things or getting involved at school, as well as being a good way to improve relationships with others.
Negative peer pressure might: Lower school attendance, because the negative influence is telling them that it’s a waste of time. Drop grades because of failure to attend to school that will decrease the chances of being accepted into a college.
According to research, the same pressure can help students to stay focused and work hard towards achieving their goals. Positive effects of peer pressure on teenagers are also clearly understood by the example of a student who is motivated to get good grades because his friends are getting good grades. So in their intentions they try and look for someone to look up to, and they search of a role model. The fact that teens are still new at decision making, it’s harder for them to chose from right or wrong. So, the more positive influences a student has around them, the better for their long-term decision making skills.
As I was saying before, it doesn’t matter what way you’re pressured. the outcome is very unpredictable. So yes peer pressure has its positive effects on teens to do better in school, but not all the time it will end in positively. As i was saying in my previous experience every pressure either ends with a consequence or a reality check, depending in what way the pressure was taken.
